ENOVO: THE EUROPEAN NETWORK OF

OLDER-VOLUNTEER ORGANISATIONS

Actively promoting volunteering by older people across Europe

ABOUT ENOVO

A group picture of those taking part in the inaugural conference of ENOVO in Bristol in November 2005.

We believe that we are the only Europe-wide organisation helping to promote opportunities for the older volunteer.

Older volunteers are broadly those aged 50 or over. They may be retired or working part-time, or thinking about how to make best use of their time once they have left active employment. Too often, older people are sidelined or discriminated against solely on account of their age. ENOVO’s founding principle is that this represents a sad neglect. Older volunteers have a wide range of skills and life experiences that can contribute greatly to the communities in which they live. Through such help they can enhance their own lives.

ENOVO acts as an umbrella body for several European volunteering organisations. We provide an international forum in which all these bodies — and their members — can discuss their objectives and opportunities and build a sense of community based on their common interests.

ENOVO aims to develop new opportunities for older volunteers, communicate good practice, open up new funding possibilities, combat ageism in volunteering organisations, and develop tools to measure the impact of older volunteering effort.

If you are an organisation working to improve opportunities for older volunteers, please join us and let us help each other. Membership is free.
